Scotch whisky master Maureen Robinson is about to retire after 45 years in the industry. As a female practitioner, she has continued to forge ahead and made outstanding contributions to the industry.
After graduating from Strathclyde University studying Pharmacy, Maureen Robinson started her career at Diageo's predecessor, The Distiller's Company Ltd, in 1977 as a scientist at the Glenochil Research Station. At work, Maureen Robinson's excellent sense of smell attracted everyone's attention. Since then, Maureen Robinson has continued to cultivate in the field of whisky, improving her sense of smell and tasting ability, and even created her own unique description to convey the flavor she perceives. .
Maureen Robinson was one of the first women in the industry to become a chief blender, having been named Keeper of the Quaich in 2012 and inducted into The Scotch Whisky Hall of Fame in 2019. Materials and files related to her time at Diageo will be kept at the Diageo Global Drinks Archive in Menstrie, and upon retirement Maureen Robinson passed on her blending notes to Malts Archivist Jo McKerchar.
