The American Distilled Spirits Council (Discus) and the American Single Malt Whiskey Council (ASMWC) have put together a proposal to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) to develop new standards for American single malt whisky.
The American Single Malt Whisky Council (ASMWC) believes that developing a new standard will benefit the development of American whisky. It added that the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) was supposed to announce a new bill on U.S. single malt whisky in December 2021.
Steve Hawley, chairman of the American Single Malt Whisky Council (ASMWC), said he was thinking about how the industry can innovate if a new bill for American single malt whisky is released. "We firmly believe that innovation and creativity are our greatest strengths and that the United States is uniquely The climatic factor of the United States provides a lot of room for innovation in American single malt whisky."
“Additionally, the geographic complexity of the U.S. makes American single malt whisky styles more diverse. In the U.S., regional styles of whisky are quietly developing.”
In 2016, when the U.S. bill for single malt whisky was drafted, a discussion meeting on the bill was held in Chicago for wine merchants. The meeting was attended by more than a dozen wine merchants, including representatives from Copperworks Distilling and Westward Whiskey.
Jason Parker, partner and president of Copperworks Distilling, said: "A key factor in the innovation of single malt whisky in the United States is that when the standard is set, the bill has been drafted with the goal of 'inclusiveness', in contrast to traditional whisky brands often It's an exclusive existence."
