Scotch-China direct container service will help Scotch whisky exports

Direct container shipping between Scotland and China is being launched, a move that will help the export trade of the Scotch whisky industry.

In order to ease the pressure on the supply chain on a global scale, KC Liner Agencies, DKT Allseas and China Xpress have cooperated to establish an east-west cargo route from Chinese ports to Greenock Ocean Terminal. The move will provide Scottish importers and exporters with direct port access for cargo, including whisky, eliminating delays caused by irregular port congestion in the Port of Rotterdam.

According to reports, the new direct service will almost halve the transit time compared to the port line service currently in use, reducing the transit time of whisky from about 60 days to about 33 days, which will lead to an increase in the export of the Scotch whisky industry. a huge boost.

The new service will offer three round-trip sailings each month, the first sailing from Ningbo, China, via the port of Shenzhen, China, and then to Greenock via the container terminal in the Port of Liverpool. It finally berthed at a container terminal in Scotland in late August.

David Milne, general manager of shipping at KC Liner Agencies, said: "The launch of the direct container service is one of the most important developments in the Scottish shipping industry for many years. For Scottish businesses, delays in European ports have brought many problems, thus affecting the normal development of many commercial trades, and these problems will be greatly reduced in the future."
